Unique Design Traits

Incredibly popular color combination, combining two extremely fine examples of both blue zircon and tsavorite garnet.

Blue zircon has incredible brilliance and sparkle, with dispersion ranking just below diamonds. Zircon is considered the oldest mineral on earth.

The emerald-cut is a unique shape for the large center blue zircon and is given an edgy and significant look with trapezoid side tsavorite garnets, angled diamond halo and double claw platinum prongs.

Slight green undertones of blue zircon are complimented by trapezoid side stones and a halo of similarly toned and perfectly matched tsavorite garnets.

Winner of the 2024 INSTORE Design Awards for 2nd Place in "Best Ring Design".

Gemstone Details

Blue Zircon

Legends in the Middle Ages said zircon was used to aid with sleep, bring about prosperity and promote wisdom. Today, zircon is often confused with the synthetic cubic zirconia, but many consumers do not realize this gemstone is its own marvelous mineral species, available in a wide range of colors.

Blue zircon is by far the most in demand yet is relatively affordable in large carat sizes. Its color is almost always the result of heat treatment, and most stones are relatively free of inclusions. This stone has a similar dispersion to a diamond and is doubly refractive, which makes it best suited for brilliant cutting styles that allow its luster and fire to shine. Often quite brittle and prone to abrasion, zircon should be worn with care. In 2014, a fragment of a zircon crystal tested in Australia was determined to be the oldest rock fragment ever found on Earth. Scientists believe it is approximately 4.4 billion years old. The largest sources of gem quality zircon mined today are in Thailand, Cambodia and Sri Lanka.

Blue zircon is the birthstone for December.

Tsavorite Garnet

Tsavorite garnet is the green variety of the grossular group of garnets, with trace elements of vanadium or chromium providing its color. Tsavorite garnet was discovered by British gem prospector Campbell R. Bridges in the mountains of northeast Tanzania in 1967. The name tsavorite was chosen by Tiffany & Co. in reference to the initial discoveries in the area in and around Tsavo National Park.

Newer to market than most gemstones, tsavorite was not promoted to the general public until 1974. Nonetheless, it has become one of the most expensive varieties of garnet. Large stones over one or two carats are quite rare and the color can be known to rival the greenest emeralds, while being far less sensitive to handling.

Although tsavorite is the name usually associated with the darker green garnets in the grossularite species, there is no universally accepted standard that designates which shade of green qualifies a stone as tsavorite. A great characteristic of tsavorite is its durability, with a hardness of 7.5 on the Mohs scale.

Garnet is the birthstone for January and the gift for the second wedding anniversary.
