Peach Garnet
The rare peach garnet has become quite popular recently and the most desirable stones will have a bright, medium-light orangy-pink color. This color combination is rarely seen in garnet, making it highly desirable. 

Garnet traces its roots to the Nile Delta in 3100 B.C., where Egyptian artisans crafted the gemstone into beads or laid them into hand-wrought jewelry. This gem, whose name is derived from the Greek “granatum,” reminded the ancients of the ruby pearls of the pomegranate. In centuries past, garnets were thought to light up the night and offer protection from nightmares. Travelers carried garnet to protect against misfortune when far from home.

The garnet family is as chemically complex as its color variety suggests. This gem is comprised of a group of six closely related minerals: almandine, pyrope, grossular, spessartite, andradite, and uvarovite. Many garnets contain a mixture of these minerals. Malaya Garnet 
First discovered in the Umba Valley River of Tanzania in 1960, Malaya garnet has been a hallmark gemstone for gem collectors due to its rarity. A hybrid of two gem groups, Malaya garnet group is classified as “pyrope-almandine.” Pyrope garnets are predominantly red, while spessartine garnets are orange. Most Malayans exhibit an equal part of pyrope and spessartine in their chemical compositions, which is what contributes to its coral color. While coral (pinkish-orange) is the rarest color, they can also prevail in amusing hues from reddish orange, to yellowish orange. We have none other but manganese to thank for the color-causing element in Malaya, which is also the trace element that causes the pink of morganite.
